We are more than one thing. Meet Declan. He is smart, adorable as the day is long, full of energy, and loves life. He also has Autism. His communication has been influenced by developmental delays, but because of his amazing family and wonderfully supportive community, and the use of his talker (iPad used to facilitate communication), his language has blossomed and he is spontaneously speaking to his family! I could go on and on about how amazing this kiddo and his family are, but I’ll end with this: Every child is unique. Every child is made up of many things. Grief is a tough thing. We’ve lost another best friend this week when we lost our adventure buddy, Targhee. We all grieve differently and for me it looks like shuffling through photos and putting memories together. I am so happy we captured these moments together hiking and spending time at the house with one another. Though it hurts to lose our best friend so unexpectedly, Jared and I can agree we gave this girl the best life we could. The most loyal and loving friend. We will miss you epically Targ. It took me a while to become comfortable declaring that I am also a photographer. I kept thinking it was too weird and didn’t jive with my day job. Turns out that wasn’t only a silly thought, it was completely wrong! My special education and leadership training makes me so much better as a photographer! A big struggle when you switch to manual mode as an outdoor photographer , at least for me, was lighting. Not only do you need to track the sun in relation to your subject, but you need to plan for unexpected cloud coverage, adjust your settings so your photo is still sharp, and use trees to modify harsh light when shooting mid-day. I love being an outdoor photographer because not only does this all keep me on my toes, but I get to be outside which is my happy place! Plus, @horizonfound taught me how to adapt which was critical!
